Mechanism
Travoprost is a hydrolysed by corneal esterases to the free acid, a selective FP prostanoid receptor . Activating FP receptors remodels the extracellular matrix of the ciliary muscle and sclera and widens the uveoscleral outflow pathway, so pressure falls because aqueous humour leaves faster rather than because less is made.

For glaucoma this class is the current first choice for good reason; one drop at night produces the largest pressure reduction available from any single agent, and it works by opening an outflow route rather than shutting production down. For eyelashes it is a bad bargain. Iris darkening is permanent, and the hollowing of the orbital fat pad that produces the sunken eye look does not reliably reverse on stopping, which is a great deal to accept for a cosmetic effect. Anyone starting it for pressure should expect the iris photographed beforehand, because that change is easy to miss slowly and impossible to undo.
