Flurbiprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) in the same propionic-acid family as ibuprofen. It is used for pain, inflammation, and stiffness, comes as tablets, an eye drop (to keep the pupil open during surgery), and topical and lozenge forms for sore throat. Mechanism
Flurbiprofen blocks cyclooxygenase (COX), the enzyme that turns arachidonic acid into prostaglandins; it inhibits both COX-1 and COX-2, so it lowers the prostaglandins that drive inflammation, pain, and fever while also affecting the housekeeping prostaglandins that protect the stomach lining and kidneys [1]. Flurbiprofen carries the standard NSAID interaction set, all of it downstream of COX inhibition. With anticoagulants, aspirin, clopidogrel or SSRIs the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding rises; corticosteroids add ulcer risk without adding analgesia.
The renal interactions matter most. Prostaglandin blockade removes the compensation that sustains glomerular filtration under stress, so flurbiprofen blunts the effect of ACE inhibitors, ARBs and diuretics, and an NSAID combined with an ACE inhibitor or ARB plus a diuretic is a recognized cause of acute kidney injury. Lithium and methotrexate both depend on renal clearance, and flurbiprofen raises the concentration of each, with lithium toxicity and methotrexate myelosuppression as the consequences.
Flurbiprofen is cleared by CYP2C9, so fluconazole and voriconazole raise its exposure, as does a reduced-function CYP2C9 genotype. It also competes with aspirin for the platelet COX-1 site, which can undercut aspirin's cardioprotection.

How is it different from ibuprofen?
They are cousins in the same NSAID family and work the same basic way. Flurbiprofen is generally more potent per unit, so it is often used at lower amounts, and it has some niche forms like an eye drop and throat lozenge.
Why does it upset some people's stomachs?
