Mechanism
It is an analogue of the purine base guanine, intended to be mistaken for a nucleotide precursor and so interfere with viral RNA synthesis, and in cell culture it shows activity against a range of RNA viruses including influenza A. The human evidence is limited to Russian trials, several of them small or open label, so the size of any real clinical effect is unsettled.
