Mechanism
It chelates divalent metal ions, chiefly zinc and magnesium, which disables bacterial metalloenzymes and prevents the biofilm matrix from assembling. That chelation is also why it is being examined as a MetAP2 and cathepsin B inhibitor in early cancer work.
