Nifoxipam is a designer benzodiazepine structurally related to flunitrazepam (Rohypnol); it's the 3-hydroxy desmethyl derivative and is presumed to share the same GABA-A mechanism. Sold as a research chemical, it's reported to be strongly sedative and hypnotic. As with the whole class, its main dangers are respiratory depression in combination with other depressants and rapid dependence.
- Strong sedation
- Sleep induction
- Anxiety relief
- Heavy next-day grogginess
- Amnesia
- Impaired coordination
- Dependence and withdrawal seizures
Mechanism
Nifoxipam is presumed to act as a positive modulator at the benzodiazepine site of the -A receptor, the same target as its parent flunitrazepam. By enhancing the receptor's response to GABA (the brain's principal inhibitory neurotransmitter), it increases chloride flow into neurons and dampens their excitability. That broad inhibition underlies its sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, and muscle-relaxant effects.

Safetyrisks and cautions, not medical advice
As a nitro-benzodiazepine relative of flunitrazepam, nifoxipam is expected to be potent and long-acting, so accumulation and next-day impairment are real concerns, and grossly underestimating a dose is easy with an unregulated powder. Combining it with opioids, alcohol, or other sedatives can cause fatal respiratory depression. Dependence forms fast and withdrawal can include seizures, so any discontinuation should be a supervised taper. Not medical advice.
Subjective profileweighing the evidence above
Not worth it. A flunitrazepam relative sold as an unregulated powder, potent and long enough to accumulate into heavy next-day impairment and dense amnesia, lethal alongside opioids or alcohol, and quick to produce a dependence whose withdrawal carries seizure risk.

FAQ
What is nifoxipam related to?
It's a derivative of flunitrazepam (Rohypnol) and is presumed to share its GABA-A mechanism, with limited human data of its own.
Why is long duration a concern?
A long half-life means the drug and its effects can accumulate with repeat dosing, causing lingering sedation and impairment the next day.
Is withdrawal dangerous?
Yes. Benzodiazepine withdrawal can include seizures and should be managed with a gradual, supervised taper.
Adverse effects

- Amnesia
- Impaired coordination
- Dependence and withdrawal seizures
