Mechanism
It binds the 50S ribosomal subunit and blocks the translocation step of bacterial protein synthesis, which stops growth rather than killing the organism outright. Cross resistance with erythromycin through methylated 23S rRNA is common, so a macrolide resistant isolate is usually resistant to this one too.
