Imunofan is a synthetic hexapeptide modelled on a fragment of the thymic hormone thymopoietin, given by injection, nasal spray or suppository as an immunomodulator in Russia.
- A defined synthetic hexapeptide with a known sequence
- Modelled on the thymic hormone thymopoietin
- Injection, nasal spray and suppository forms available
- Described actions on T cells and antioxidant enzymes
- Used as an immunomodulator in Russia
- Imunofan is the synthetic hexapeptide Arg-alpha-Asp-Lys-Val-Tyr-Arg (RDKVYR, 836 Da), made by modifying residues 32-37 of thymopoietin, supplied as 1 mL ampoules of 0.005% solution [5].
- No molecular receptor has been identified; the peptide is conformationally flexible, stable in water, and rapidly albumin-bound in plasma [1].
- It increased human fibroblast proliferation 30-40% and keratinocyte proliferation 20-50% with no cytotoxicity and no allergic properties on basophil testing [1].
- The in vivo repair effect was modest and strain-dependent: 8% in BALB/c versus 36% in C57BL/6 mice in an ear-pinna model [1].
- PubMed indexes fewer than 30 papers with Imunofan in the title, and not one is a randomised placebo-controlled human trial; the claims of restored cell immunity and reduced TNF and IL-6 trace to a 1999 Russian narrative review [5].
Mechanism
The sequence Arg-Asp-Lys-Val-Tyr-Arg is a modified version of the active region of thymopoietin, the thymic that directs T-cell differentiation. The developer describes three effects: correction of T-cell subset balance, induction of antioxidant enzymes including ceruloplasmin and superoxide dismutase, and inhibition of transmembrane multidrug resistance pumps. Every one of those claims traces back to the originating institute's own programme, and none has been independently reproduced.
receptor fingerprint
Plasma albuminStable in aqueous solution but rapidly bound by albumin in plasma; the peptide is conformationally flexible
Dermal fibroblast and keratinocyte proliferationDirectly pro-proliferative in human cell lines with no cytotoxicity across a wide concentration range
Genes of active DNA demethylation in fibroblasts, and migration/chemotaxis genes in adipose-derived stem cellsSignificant transcriptional activation in both cell types
No identified receptor or enzymeAfter three decades of Russian use no molecular target has been demonstrated; the structure is a modification of thymopoietin residues 32-37
Safetyrisks and cautions, not medical advice
a prescription injectable and suppository immunomodulator in Russia with no approval, and no independent trial data, anywhere else
Subjective profileweighing the evidence above
Every claim attached to this peptide traces back to the institute that developed it, and none of the three (T-cell rebalancing, antioxidant enzyme induction, reversal of multidrug resistance) has been reproduced by an outside group. A single source evidence base is not a negative one, but it is the weakest kind there is, and the multidrug resistance claim in particular would be famous by now if it held. Injectable and suppository forms of an unapproved immunomodulator are not a reasonable self-experiment.

Notes and cautions
- Imunofan is registered in Russia and some CIS states with no FDA or EMA approval, no boxed warning, and no randomised placebo-controlled human trial indexed in PubMed, so clinical safety is not established by international standards.
- In vitro it showed no cytotoxicity across a wide concentration range and no basophil-activation signal [1].
- The relevant caution is pharmacodynamic: in immature rats it altered testicular structure, reproductive hormone levels and cytokine profiles [3], so use in children, adolescents, pregnancy and autoimmune disease is unsupported.
