Mechanism
It is a non-selective phosphodiesterase inhibitor, so cyclic AMP and cyclic GMP accumulate in smooth muscle and the muscle relaxes; it also blocks calcium channels. It comes from the poppy but belongs to the benzylisoquinoline group rather than the morphinans, so it does not touch opioid receptors at all.
