Dihydromyricetin (DHM, also called ampelopsin) is a flavonoid from the oriental raisin tree (Hovenia dulcis) and the vine Ampelopsis grossedentata, used for centuries in East Asian folk medicine as a hangover and liver remedy. It is best known for two overlapping effects: modulating GABA-A receptors to counter alcohol's actions on the brain, and supporting the liver enzymes that clear alcohol. Most of the striking data is preclinical; human trials are still thin.
Isoliquiritigenin is a chalcone-type flavonoid from licorice (Glycyrrhiza) with a bright yellow color and a simple trihydroxychalcone backbone. In lab and animal studies it acts as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, activating the Nrf2 pathway while dampening NF-kB and the NLRP3 inflammasome, and it inhibits the aromatase enzyme that makes estrogen. Nearly all of the evidence is preclinical; there is no established human dose and human trial data are essentially absent.
L-Histidine is an essential amino acid built around an imidazole ring, which gives it an unusual set of jobs: it is the direct precursor to histamine and (with beta-alanine) to carnosine, it buffers pH near physiological range, and it chelates divalent metals like iron and copper while scavenging singlet oxygen and hydroxyl radicals. It shows up in food protein and is sold as a standalone supplement. Human outcome data is modest but real for skin barrier (atopic dermatitis) and metabolic markers, with most of its antioxidant reputation resting on biochemistry and preclinical work.
