Butylone (beta-keto-MBDB, or bk-MBDB) is a methylenedioxy-substituted synthetic cathinone belonging to the entactogenic subgroup that also includes methylone and ethylone. It interacts non-selectively with the plasma-membrane transporters for dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin, and radioligand studies show affinity at 5-HT2A receptors similar to that of MDMA, consistent with its MDMA-like but more stimulant-flavored profile.
